With thunderclouds hanging in the skies above the outfield, the Rabun County Little League All-Stars snatched a 5-3 victory Monday from the Habersham American All-Stars during the 7-to-8-year-old All-Star tournament held in Clarkesville.
Coming off a heartbreaking one-run loss to the Toccoa American All-Stars on Saturday night, Rabun was able to keep its focus behind the leadership of Blake Curbow, 8, who threw 66 pitches in 4 1/3 innings and drove in two RBIs with a line drive up the middle in the bottom of the fifth.
The hit put the All-Stars on top 5-3, and they never relinquished the lead.
“They had to want it,” head coach Regina Talley said. “We had to win to even think about advancing.” Talley said she was impressed with the team's pitching.
She noted that the players' hitting must improve if they are to have a chance of making the semifinal round of the tourney this weekend.
“We've definitely got to get our bats going,” she said.
