Minnehaha Falls

Located south of Lake Rabun, Minnehaha tumbles 100 feet down over a stair step ledge to a pool.

Directions - From Clayton, head south on Highway 441 to Lake Rabun Road. Turn right and drive around the north side of the lake. Turn left about one mile past the Rabun Beach Recreational Area, crossing Seed Lake Dam and following Bear Gap Road around the lake for 1 1/2 miles. Hike Fall Branch Trail a half mile to the falls.

Panther Falls and Angel Falls

These falls are also located near Rabun Beach Recreational Area.

Directions - Turn right into Area 2 of the recreation area. Drive back along the loop road to the sign designating the trailhead. This is an easy trail that follows Joe Branch north from the recreation area to the two waterfalls. Panther Falls is located about a half mile up the trail, while Angel Falls is another 600 yards farther.

Holcomb Creek Falls and Ammons Creek Falls

These falls are located in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Directions - From Clayton, head east on Warwoman Road about 10 miles and turn left onto Hale Ridge Road. Continue nine miles to Overflow Road.

A moderate trail starts on the north side of the intersection and leads to the Holcomb Creek Falls. Ammons Creek Falls is several hundred yards farther up the trail.

Becky Branch Falls

This is an easily accessible fall, just minutes from Clayton.

Directions - From Clayton, drive east on Warwoman Road to the Warwoman Dell Recreation Area, which is on the right. The trail starts at the recreation area. Walk upstream along the trail parallel to the stream. It will cross Warwoman Road, and then wind uphill for 200 yards to the base of the falls.

Martin Creek Falls

This is a series of small falls in the Chattahoochee National Forest, less than a mile east of Becky Branch Falls.

Directions - From Clayton, drive east on Warwoman Road past the Warwoman Dell Recreation Area. Look for a dirt road on the left. A large wooden sign designates the Warwoman Wildlife Management Area. Follow it for a half mile. Look for a small camping area on the left at a sharp bend in the road. Park in the cleared area, then walk west. Cross Martin Creek and then travel uphill for about a half mile to the top of the falls. The base of the falls can be accessed from a crude side path.

Bull Sluice

This whitewater cascade is a favorite of kayakers.

Directions - From Clayton, travel east on Highway 76 East to the South Carolina line. Park on the South Carolina side of the bridge and follow a paved path from the parking area. At a sharp left turn in the path, continue straight. The sluice is less than a quarter mile ahead.

Hemlock Falls

On a scenic trail across from Moccasin Creek State Park.

Directions - From Clayton, take Highway 76 West to Georgia 197 South. Continue south until you see the park entrance on the left. A relatively flat 1.25-mile trail wanders through a wildlife management area beside Moccasin Creek to a 15-foot waterfall.

Tallulah Gorge

The 3,000-acre park offers five waterfalls: Hurricane (with a 96-foot drop), Tempesta (76 feet), Oceana (50 feet), L'Eau d'Or (46 feet) and Bridal Veil (17 feet). To see them up close requires a hike to the bottom of the gorge, a strenuous hike.

Directions - From Clayton, drive south on Highway 441 about 11 miles before turning left into Tallulah Gorge State Park.
