My name is Larry Stover. I am a ordained minister living here in Mount Airy. I am excited to tell you about a spiritual event being held here in Surry County that I was hoping your church would want to be involved with. I am calling this event Via Dolorosa 2013. In short, this will be held Easter (Resurrection) weekend, March 29th– 31st (Friday-Sunday). We will be carrying crosses across parts of Surry stopping at many area schools to pray for the school, staff, and students. This identifies the participants with Christ and the cross. We want as many local churches to these schools as possible to walk and pray with us.
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.
Mark 8:34 Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.
Luke 9:23 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.
The Via Dolorosa is Latin for Way of Grief or Way of Suffering. This is a difficult course or experience. It was also the name of Jesus’ route from Pilate’s judgment hall to Calvary. This will not be easy but the reward is great. It will be 24 miles, 12.8 miles on Friday, 10.4 miles on Saturday, 1 miles on Sunday morning, ending at each church involved as we walk in to Sunday service. Please don't let the mileage scare you away. We will have water and snacks. And you may walk what you can.
Friday and Saturday night we will have a Worship service on Friday night with some powerful worship music and Word of God at The Fountain of Life 154 Cornerstone Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030. All churches are welcome and invited. Saturday night we would like to have another host church to open their door for worship and Word service. We are inviting a local worship band to be @ both services to be announced later. Some churches will have their own service, either way is acceptable and will be respected. This is a community event.
This is an awesome time of reflection when we are walking through the streets of our community carrying the crosses, thinking about the price that Jesus paid for us, it is also a Huge witness to our community. We should see people come out of their home and work places and cheer us on as we walk by but there will be those who will be in a hurry and might curse us or try degrading us. When you think about it that happens often as we identify ourselves with Jesus. It is healthy to suffer a little persecution; it brings the body of Christ together as well as matures us spiritually. We have routed our walk to schools so that we can stop take a break and pray for the school and the students.
Anyone can participate, and are encouraged to, no matter what age.
