Pam Bearden was looking for something to get her out of the house. She found a career in framing. Not construction industry mid you, Bearden has owned Meeks Picture House, 308 East Sixth Avenue for more than two decades.

Bearden took over Rome’s oldest framing studio 23 years ago.

The business now has more than 2,000 samples of wood frames, which are made to order. Bearden, along with Sandy Marchman and designer Lindsay Turner frame museum quality works to shadow boxes, mirrors, and all kinds of art objects in addition to lithographs and decorating pieces.

In addition to custom framing, Meeks Picture House sells prints by local artists and through the Internet, can access a limitless stock of prints from around the globe. “Now because of all of the computer works, you can get online and look stuff up, we can locate stuff for you, so it’s absolutely limitless,” Bearden said.

When it comes to putting together the perfect frame, Bearden said she could show a customer a wide range of frames, high very inexpensive, to high-end work. “We work with you any way we can, I’d rather have a happy client with a good piece of artwork,” Bearden said. “We have done some bodacious work too!”

In addition to frames and prints, the shop, at the intersection of East Sixth Avenue and Glen Milner Blvd. sells a wide variety of framing supplies and décor.

Meeks also now offers customers special kits to help preserve wedding bouquets, or funeral arrangements.

The shop is open Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment.
