Kelly Lindsey, co-owner of Oak Swings and Other Things, is answering the questions for today’s Small Business Snapshot.
What is the primary purpose of your business? The primary purpose of our business is to provide quality outdoor furniture to the public at reasonable prices.
What is your business background? We have owned Will Pinson Properties Inc. for the last four years.
Why did you start in this particular business? We saw this as an opportunity to do woodworking, which is something we both enjoy. In addition, we wanted to provide high quality products that are “Made in the USA” and stimulate the economy by providing jobs for other Americans.
What makes your business unique? George Washington Osborne, known locally as G.W, started this business over 20 years ago. It has a rich tradition of making good, solid, long lasting products that are both affordable and comfortable. Many of the swings that are in use today in this region were designed and built by Mr. Osborne. We hope to carry on the proud tradition.
What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession? We like the fact that we can do something we enjoy while making a living. We take pride in manufacturing high quality products right here in the USA. We also enjoy the fact that we can provide these products to others at a reasonable price while allowing others to work by helping us do this.
What has been the biggest or most interesting challenge to overcome as a small business owner? The challenges of running any small business in view of our current economic conditions are numerous. The greatest challenge we face is trying to grow this business on essentially a “shoestring” budget. However, if the good Lord is willing and the creek don’t rise, we feel like we can grow this business and do our part to help re-build America.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? We would like to thank the community for its support over the years and ask for their continued assistance in this endeavor. We would welcome any advice or assistance in this new venture to help our community and our country to be an even better place to live.
