Mr. Jones was born March 22, 1936, in Clayton at Rabun County Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Rabun County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Short Jones.
Mr. Jones owned and operated Jones Auto Parts on Savannah Street in Clayton from 1955 until 1996. He was the son of Carlton Henry Jones and Olabelle Inglis Jones. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fly fishing and the outdoors.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Jones Farley and James Farley of Hot Springs Village, and a son, Carlton Henry "Hobie" Jones III of Peachtree City.
He is also survived by: five grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth Gourlay of London, John Matthew Gourlay Jr. of Fayetteville, Ark., Margaret Benham Jones of Nashville, Tenn., and Elizabeth Hamilton Jones and Carlton Henry Jones IV, both of Peachtree City.
