TALLUAH RIVER HANDICAP FISHING PIER PROPOSAL

U.S.D.A., Forest Service

Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests

Chattooga River Ranger District

The USDA-Forest Service, Chattooga River Ranger District, is requesting public comment on a proposal to construct a handicap- accessible fishing pier on the Tallulah River. This project proposes to construct the pier at the Line Branch area on the Tallulah River. The pier will extend from the natural streambank to approximately 15 feet over the river. In addition, this project proposes to construct a hard surface, level parking area and wheelchair accessible trail from the parking area to the pier. Finally, if desirable fish habitat does not currently exist, structures may be built in the river to improve the fish habitat and improve fishing opportunities. The project is located on the Tallulah River, between the Tallulah River and Tate Branch Campgrounds, 1/10 mile north of the Rabun/Towns County line on Forest Service Road 70, approximately 14 miles northwest of Clayton, GA.

A more detailed description of the proposed project and other information for this proposal is available for review at the Chattooga River Ranger District office located at 9975 Hwy. 441S, Lakemont, GA. This information is also available for viewing on the Forests website at www.fs.usda.gov/conf.

This proposal appears to be categorically excluded from documentation in an Environmental Assessment or an Environmental Impact Statement pursuant to 36 CFR 220.6(e). The decision will be subject to administrative appeal in accordance with 36 CFR 215 and the judicial ruling in Sequoia ForestKeeper v. Tidwell.
