Curtis Rayburn Shirley, 66, of Clayton went home peacefully to be with his Lord with his family by his bedside Tuesday morning, Dec. 10, 2013.

Hew as born March 24, 1947, in Rabun County to the late M.J. and Rose Holcomb Shirley. He was a carpenter and farmer and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Curtis was preceded in death by: a brother, Dudley Shirley; and by a sister, Peggy Shirley.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 42 years, Bonnie Ledford Shirley of the home; a son, Curtis Jason Shirley of Clayton; two daughters, Elaina Beth Shirley and Lacey Nicole Shirley, both of Clayton; a special friend, Monica Carnes (dear to the heart of the family); a brother, Wendell Shirley of Wiley; two sisters, Loraine Ramsey of Asheville, N.C., and Lavonne Starnes of Gwinnett County; and six grandchildren, Curtis Taylor Shirley, Erika Carnes, Reid Shirley, Perryn Morgan, Alex Levit and Lainey Morgan.

A memorial service was held Dec. 12 at the new Hunter Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Johnny Wright and Jewell Gaines officiating. The body was cremated after the service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hunter Funeral Home, P.O. Box 653, Clayton, GA 30525, to aid in funeral expenses and/or to the Rathburn Center, P.O. Box 5363, Asheville, NC 28813-5363.
