Eugene Talmadge Chamblee, 77, of Clayton, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2013.

He was born in Rabun County to the late Lester Verdo and Belle Welborn Chamblee. Gene worked for Burlington Industries and for the city of Clayton. He attended Battle Branch Baptist Church and enjoyed family gatherings, walking, cooking out and wrestling. Gene was a friend to all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: two brothers, Horace Chamblee and Fred Chamblee; and two sisters, Lelia Gritzke and Lorenne Chamblee.

Gene is survived by: his wife, Katherine Asherbranner; a son, Jesse Chamblee; three daughters, Debra Coalley and husband Ricky of Tiger, Janet Benfield and husband John of Clayton and Lynn Wiekle and husband George of Franklin, N.C.; a brother, R.E. Chamblee of Clayton; a sister, Lois Trotter of Clarkesville; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Madison McCrackin and Bill Trotter officiating. Burial followed at Liberty Cemetery.
