George Earl Keener, 67, of Clayton, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Earl was the widower of Darlene Malcom Keener.

He was born Nov. 1, 1945, in Rabun County to the late Robert and Drucie Keener. He was a contractor in the construction industry and was a member of Chechero Baptist Church.

Earl was preceded in death by: his wife; his parents; a son, Freddie Wayne Keener; a brother, C.A. Keener; and a sister, Mildred Keener Stancil.

He is survived by: two sons, Robert Earl Keener (Angela) of Clayton and Randall Eugene Keener (Julie) of Cornelia; a brother, David Keener (Holly) of Clayton; a sister, Mary Ann Cooley (Bill) of Clayton; six grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services were held Friday at the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Wilson and Frank Stancil Jr. officiating. Burial followed at the Price Cemetery in the Chechero community.
