Mr. Holt was born April 1, 1931, in Macon County, N.C., to the late Eugene and Clara Allman Holt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his daughter, Traci Holt Owens; a twin sister, Jean Owens; and a brother, Grady Holt.
Mr. Holt attended Cornelia First Presbyterian Church, having served as a deacon and was an enthusiastic Sunday school participant. He was a former member of N.E.G.A. Mountain Hiking Club, Nantahala Hiking Club, a soup kitchen volunteer, Little Tennessee Watershed Association (Macon County), and Habitat for Humanity (Macon County). Mr. Holt was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served his country during the Korean War. He was a professional firefighter, having served as assistant fire chief in Clarkesville for four years and formerly having served the residents of Montgomery County, Md., with 25 years of loyal and dedicated service.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 57 years, Mae M. Holt of Demorest; daughters, Tami H. Duncan of Walhalla, S.C., and Kelli H. Matthews of Demorest; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Ricky Wilson of Mount Airy; a brother, Tom Holt of Tacoma, Wash.; a brother-in-law, Jesse Ray Owens of Clayton; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Cornelia First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Blaine Walker officiating. The Holt family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the memorial service.
