John Rollin ‘J.R.’ Lunsford

John Rollin “J.R.” Lunsford, 88, of Clayton, died Monday night, Nov. 14, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Rabun County to the late Millard and Jean Holcomb Lunsford. He was a boiler technician with Burlington Industries and was a deputy for Rabun County Sheriff’s Office several years ago. He was a member of Battle Branch Baptist Church.

J.R. was preceded in death by: a son, Rollin Lunsford; two brothers, Homer Lunsford and Willard “Short” Lunsford; and four sisters, Bonnie Dixon, Clarcie Wilbanks, Evilee Bramblett and Betty Lunsford.

Survivors include: a son, Perry Lunsford and wife Jan of Clayton; a daughter, Lynn Henderson and husband Albert of Waycross; two brothers, the Rev. Waymond Lunsford and Sandy Lunsford, both of Clayton; a sister, Dorothy Carnes of Tiger; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services were held Friday at Battle Branch Baptist Church with officiating by the Revs. Madison McCrackin and Mike Wilbanks. Burial followed at Rabun Memory Park.
