Joyce Cheek Maples, of Clayton, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Habersham County to Dewitt and Violet Eubanks Cheek. She grew up in Rabun County and spent most of her adult years in Lavonia, Mich. She graduated from Rabun County High School. She was a licensed practical nurse and was active in nursing activities. She was actively involved in school activities and sports when her boys were growing up. She was a member of Clayton Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, M. Keith Maples.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 60 years, Clyde Maples of Clayton; and four sons, Stephen Maples (Susan) of Grayling, Mich., Scott Maples (Gail) and Michael Maples (Yvonne), both of Lavonia, Mich., and David Maples of Oak Park, Mich. She was the grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of six. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Hunter Funeral Home with Lloyd Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.
