Kathy was employed by Republic Services (formerly Waste Management) for 24 years. She was unselfish when giving of her time and energy while caring for her grandmother, mother and mother-in-law for many years while holding down a full-time job.
Kathy is survived by: her son, Wyatt “Bubba” Welch of Clayton; twin sister Rita Butcher and husband Roy of Clayton; brothers, Rickey Darnell of Tampa, Fla., and Kevin Darnell of Lakeland, Fla.; special nieces and nephews, Samantha Butcher of Clayton, Cameron Darnell of Tampa and Hannah, Rogan and Katherine Darnell of Lakeland; niece, Brittany Taylor McClain; a great-nephew, Brayden McClain; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Rabun County as well as special friends and co-workers.
The family would like to thank each and every one who has given money, time, your talents and most of all your prayers the last few months of Kathy’s life. She never lost hope or that smile. We know she is smiling down on each of us now being reunited with her son, her parents and other loved ones who welcomed her Home.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beck Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from noon-2 p.m. at the chapel of the funeral home. The body has been cremated, and the ashes will be interred next to Kathy’s infant son, Trenton, at Taylor’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 485, Rabun Gap, GA 30568; or to the Kathy Welch Fund for Wyatt at Rabun County Bank.
