She was born July 28, 1928, to the late William Jesse Smith and Maude Jones Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: four brothers, Garth S. Smith, R. Garfield Smith, Garland W. Smith and David F. Smith; and a sister, Barbara Jean Smith Dodson.
She is survived by: four sisters, Evelyn S. Scarnato of Old Forge, Pa., Margie S. Chappell of Jefferson, Ellaine S. Chappell of Cleveland and Carol S. Pickens of Clayton; a brother, Myles Smith of Lakemont; two sisters-in-law, Ida Elizabeth Smith of Clayton and Ruth Smith of Toccoa; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Dodson of Clayton; 16 nephews; 20 nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Lorraine graduated from Lakemont High School and attended Berry College in Rome. She retired from Clayburne Manufacturing in Clayton, where she was a supervisor for many years.
Lorraine was a very loving sister, aunt and loving mother to many children who loved her as much as she loved them. She had a very tender heart for her animals. She enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels, groundhogs, raccoons, her cats and dogs, and she even fed the bears. She never let an animal go hungry.
She was an avid book reader and loved to do crossword puzzles. She spent many hours, after she retired, with a special great-niece, “Little Gracie,” drawing pictures and watching TV. Lorraine will be sorely missed by those who loved and spent many happy times with her.
A memorial service was held Friday in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel.
Beck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. An online guestbook is available at www.beckfuneralhome.com.
