Margaret Elizabeth Humphrey, 87, of Gainesville, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Humphrey was born June 26, 1925, in Atlanta to the late Carl Alonzo Mason Sr. and Margaret Sneed Mason. She was a loving mother and a housewife. Elizabeth was a member of First Baptist Church of Oakwood. Elizabeth met her husband, Jim, in Atlanta in early 1946. They were married Dec. 7, 1946, and started their life together living in the Lakewood area of Atlanta with her parents. This was the start of the journey she and Jim have together. After the second son was born, Elizabeth and Jim moved to Forest Park, where they raised their family of five children. Then in 1981, they moved to Lake Lanier to continue their joyful journey. Elizabeth has five children, eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. God blessed her family with the way she touched our lives and will be forever blessed by knowing her as “Maw-Maw.” She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Carl Mason Jr.

She is survived by: her husband of 65 years, James Garland Humphrey; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Gail Humphrey of Atlanta and Terry and Cindy Humphrey and Jimmy and Elise Humphrey, all of Gainesville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Hollis Hodge of Concord and Suzanne Flowers and Larry Copeland of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Andy and Shannon Humphrey of Cartersville, Adam and Amy Humphrey of McDonough, Jennifer Humphrey of Gainesville, Terry “T.J.” and Teena Humphrey of Gainesville, Jessica Flowers of Jonesboro, Audrea Hodge and Austin Hodge of Concord and Brittany Humphrey and John Davenport of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Faith Humphrey, Mason Humphrey, Peyton Humphrey, Cole Humphrey, Eric Gillman, Caden Gillman, Kylie Humphrey, Tristan Humphrey, Eli Humphrey, Jayla Burden, Zach Flowers, Zoie Flowers, Hayleigh Davenport and Tyler Davenport; a niece and her husband, Pamela and Aaron Jinks; and a nephew, Mark Mason.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville with the Revs. Steve Fenlon and Bill Long officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Oakwood or to the American Liver Foundation.
