Rachel Arlene Thompson, 88, of Clayton, entered into eternal rest Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at her residence.

She was born in Rabun County to the late Sanford Lafayette and Dora Frances King Thompson.

Arlene was a member of Persimmon Baptist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers, reading and doing word search puzzles. She was also a really good cook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Howard Willis Thompson; four brothers, Dover Thompson, Grover Thompson, Buford Thompson and Truett Thompson; and a sister, Grace Thompson Justus.

Arlene is survived by: four sons, Jimmy Thompson and wife Daisy of Clayton, Ray Thompson and wife Cheryl of Mount Airy, Ronald Thompson and wife Bonnie of Clayton and Sanford Thompson and wife Susan of Clayton; two daughters, Shirley Nichols and husband Grady of Clayton and Mary Williams and husband Bob of Clayton; 15 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and four great-great-stepgrandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Beck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Wright officiating. Burial followed at Blalock Cemetery in Clayton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Persimmon Baptist Church, 2032 Persimmon Road, Clayton, GA 30525.
