Schley was born May 11, 1924, in Cornelia to Carl and Jura Foster Burrell. He was the widower of Eloise Chapman Burrell. Schley was a retired Georgia Department of Transportation regional engineer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 220 of Clayton, where he was a former commander. He served two terms as a Rabun County commissioner and was a former Rotarian. He was a member of Clayton Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Several years ago he served as superintendent of the Sunday school.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: two sons, Schley H. “Sonny” Burrell Jr. and Michael Burrell; and two brothers, Everett Burrell and Brabson Burrell.
He is survived by: a daughter, Sherry Burrell Patrick and husband Mike of Alpharetta; two brothers; Lyman Burrell of Dacula and Richard Burrell of Lilburn; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Clayton Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Thompson officiating. Burial followed at Rabun Memory Park.
