William Harry Keener, 89, of Clayton died Friday, May 17, 2013, at his residence.

He was born June 2, 1923, in Rabun County to the late William Marcus Keener and Martha Hopkins Keener. He was the widower of Elise Holt Keener.

Harry was an employee of the textile industry for many years but was also a cook. He could cook hamburgers better than anybody. His burgers were known as “Harry Burgers.” He was a member of Clayton First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by: a brother, Rosco Keener; and a sister, Cora Keener Underwood.

Survivors include: two daughters, Judy Keener Carpenter and Gayle Keener Smith, both of Clayton; three grandchildren, Jody Kilby, Sharon Adams and John Carpenter; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and cousins.

Funeral services held Monday at the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with the Rev. Jan Devereaux and layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial followed at Rabun Memory Park.
