Anne Phillips, 81, of Columbus, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital.

Mrs. Phillips was born April 14, 1930, in Lakemont to the late Lillie Viola Cannon Jones and Henry Franklin Jones. She was the descendent of the Jones and Cannon families of Rabun County, which contributed to the early establishment of this county. After her mother died two weeks after giving birth to her, she was raised by her father, brother and sisters. She then moved to Columbus at age 12, after the death of her father. She retired from H. L. Green as a sales clerk. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where she was the secretary/treasurer. She also had a love of flower gardening and traveling.

Many photographs and information about her and her family are printed in the recent books, “A History In Photographs-Rabun County, GA” volumes one and two.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Cora Pauline Jones Whitley, Sallie Mae Jones, Savannah Grace Jones Gibson and Ruth Jones Whitley.

Survivors include: her sons, Melvin Phillips of Columbus and Tony Jones (Beverly) of Columbus; a daughter, Carol Love (Terry) of Pine Mountain Valley; a sister, Bessie LaPine of North Adams, Mass.; a brother, Tom Jones (Alice) of Warm Springs; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.
