Marjorie J. Gorday passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at home.

She was born in 1933 in Jackson, Miss., to Joseph E. and Natalie R. James. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert E. Gorday; loving children Grace (Jack) Franus, Mary (Mike) Osterholt, Mark (Michelle) Gorday and Paul (Khanh) Gorday; and adoring grandchildren Julia, Ryan, Eric, Jonathan and Joshua Gorday.

She is also survived by sisters Alice Mizell and Frances Green; brother William (Sybil) James; sister-in-law Jean Parker; brothers-in-law Charles Gorday and John Gorday; and several nieces and nephews.

Prior to retirement, Marjorie served faithfully and effectively for 41 years as a United Methodist minister’s wife, and for the past 19 years she has served in various capacities at the Clayton First United Methodist Church. She gathered many warm and fulfilling friendships through United Methodist Women, choir, handbells and Sunday school.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting and traveling with her husband and family.

God has blessed us with her life. For this we are truly thankful and will cherish her memory.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Clayton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Green officiating. Burial followed at Rabun Memory Park.
