He was born in Smyrna to the late John L. and Ilant Lawler Leathers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patrice M. Leathers.
Forest is survived by: his loving wife, Eileen Patricia Martin Leathers of Sky Valley; three children, Forest A. Leathers of San Pedro, Calif., Paula Renee Leathers of Atlanta and Lori Single of Kennesaw; a granddaughter, Dr. Michelle Espanosa of Atlanta; sisters, Reba Jones of Christian City in Newnan, Marcia Podonovich of Shalimar, Fla.; nephews, Kenneth Jones and wife Floy of Houston and Phillip Jones and wife Nancy of Essex, Conn.; and his very special godchild, Sarah Elizabeth Gobeil of Grey, Maine.
He attended Chapel Hill Military Academy, where he was on the track team, and Georgia Tech. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Forest was the business manager of the nuclear power systems for Foxboro Company and served on the Sky Valley City Council . He was the secretary for the Sky Valley Fire Department for over 13 years. He served on the Rabun County Library Board of Directors and was an avid supporter of the National Rifle Association. He was of the Episcopal faith.
