William Karl ‘Bud’ Duckworth

William Karl “Bud” Duckworth, 69, of Tiger, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at University Hospital in Augusta.

He was born Sept. 11, 1943, in Walhalla, S.C., to William C. and Lila Hood Duckworth.

Bud was preceded in death by his father and a son, Charles Dennis.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by: his wife, Mary Sussie Roane Duckworth; a son, Sidney R. Dennis of Modoc, S.C.; a brother, Donald Duckworth of Seneca, S.C.; two sisters, Judy Davis and Mildred Brooks, both of Seneca; and a granddaughter.

Bud was retired from the National Guard and served his country faithfully in Vietnam. He was a member of the DAV, VFW and the American Legion. He worked for many years at Whittaker Oil Company and for the Rabun County Recycling Department. He was a member of Tiger Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and was an avid reader of westerns.

The family received friends Jan. 3 at Beck Funeral Home. Following visitation, a graveside service with full military honors was held at Roane Cemetery in Clayton.

Memorial donations in Bud’s memory may be made to the Roane Cemetery Maintenance Fund, P.O. Box 71, Tiger, GA 30576.
