She was born July 23, 1946, to the late James Edward and Gisele Gilbert Thomas Giles. She was of the Catholic faith and received her licensed practical nursing degree from North Georgia Technical College. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo, fishing and going to gospel singings. She retired from Tugalo Construction Company.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Vernon Giles.
Survivors include: her husband, Hugh Alexander; three daughters, Tracy Shope of Alpharetta, Chantal Whiten of Martin and Connie Darley of St. Augustine, Fla.; a son, Jeffery Alexander of St. Augustine; four grandchildren, Evan Whiten and Marlee Whiten, both of Toccoa, J. D. Quiett of St. Augustine and Christy Quiett of North Carolina; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the of Whitlock Mortuary chapel with the Revs. Ricky McFarlin and Jerrell Beatty officiating.
Burial will follow at Old Martin Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Evan Whiten, Charlie Davis, Calvin Davis, William Davis, Jeff Holbrook and Will Thompson.
