Clara Ruth Burrell Thompson, 88, of Clayton, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at her residence with her family at her side. She was the widow of T. Grover Thompson, her husband of 65 years who died in 2005.

A lifelong resident of Rabun County, she was born July 27, 1924, to the late J. Lawrence and Connie Dixon Burrell. She retired from Burlington Industries and was of the Presbyterian faith.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; a grandson, Todd E. Thompson; and a son-in-law, Robert VanHook.

Mrs. Thompson, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, is survived by: a sister, Helen B. Howard of Rabun Gap; a son, Terrell G. Thompson Sr.; two daughters, Linda Thompson VanHook and Joan Thompson Prater and husband Bob, all of Clayton; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of caring and much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral was held Monday in the chapel of Beck Funeral Home with the Revs. Jan Thompson and James Harvey officiating. Burial followed at Rabun Memory Park.
