She was born June 6, 1932, in Augusta to the late George Frank Hernlen Sr. and Katie Bell Reece Hernlen. He graduated from Daytona Beach High School and reared his family there. He retired from Florida Power and Light Company. He was a Catholic. He was an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Spring Lake Community in Dillard. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by a grandson and a sister, Betty Dittman.
Survivors include: a son, George Tracy Hernlen of Spring Lake, Dillard; three daughters, Lavon Mullins of Port Orange, Fla., and Sheila Cranfill and Betty Lou Hernlen, both of Spring Lake, Dillard; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The body has been cremated, and a memorial service was held Monday at Chapel of Sky Valley with the Rev. John Erbelding officiating.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to local hospices.
