He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Rabun County to Thomas Fountain Sr. and Vassie Garland Fountain. He graduated from Rabun County High School in 1952. One of his favorite memories was playing in the Georgia state championship football game against Thomson High School in 1951 at Sanford Stadium in Athens. He worked for Burlington Industries for 35 years in various capacities, retiring as a textile supervisor.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Buford, David and Calvin Fountain; and a sister, Jean Whitten.
Survivors include: his wife, Cleo B. Fountain; a son, Joey Fountain and daughter-in-law, Pam Walter Fountain; grandsons, Gilbert Reno Fountain and Thomas Walter Fountain of Tallulah Falls; brothers, Thomas Fountain Jr. and Lewis Fountain, both of Clayton; sisters, Irene Lamb of Rabun Gap, Nancy Ayers of Clarkesville and Cinda Massengill of Lula; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Reno’s memory to the Wolffork Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 453 Wolffork Church Road, Rabun Gap, GA 30568.
A memorial service was held Monday followed by a private family burial.
