He graciously went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elise Gibson, formerly of Clayton, and Andrell Griffin, formerly of Philadelphia.
He was a member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church in Clayton, where he was a loyal and faithful member from an early age. He worked for Georgia Power for 37 years and Walmart until his illness. He also worked for Russell Concrete for many years. Jesse was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Cynthia Penland; two children, Sherita Penland (Robert Burton) and “Tee” Terrance E. Penland, both of Clayton; a brother, Harley Lewis Penland Jr. (Daovone) of Clayton; four grandchildren, Eliyah “Lee Lee” J. Penland and “Rae” Malik Roberts of Toccoa and Jesse “AK” Burton and Dartavious “Daedae” Penland of Clayton; three sisters-in-law, Asylene Martin and Mary A. Fruster, both of Toccoa, and Berlinda Burton of Beaver Dam, Ky.; two brothers-in-law, Geri Martin and Charlie Jarrett, both of Toccoa; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins and several dear friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Ivy Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Doris Gray officiating. Burial followed at Penland Cemetery.
