Robert O. “Bobby” Dodd Jr., 92, of Clayton, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013.

Bobby was born in Hinton, W.Va., to the late Robert O. Dodd Sr. and Dorothy Anderson Dodd.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife of 56 years, Louise Hankins Dodd; and two brothers, Charles Francis Dodd and Thomas Edward Dodd.

Mr. Dodd is survived by: three children, David Dodd of Marietta, Zane Dodd and wife Palmour of Atlanta and Dale Stice and husband Sandy of Atlanta; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1942. He then served four years in the U.S. Navy, being discharged with the rank of lieutenant. In Atlanta, he owned and operated R.O. Dodd Company, a sporting goods manufacturers agency, was a past president of the National Sporting Goods Agents Association and was a past president of Cherokee Town & Country Club. In Rabun County, he was a past president of the North Georgia Arts Guild, was a past chairman of the Republican Party and was a founder of the Lake Burton Scholarship Fund.

The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. today at Beck Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at noon in the Beck Funeral Home chapel. Committal will be at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
