Douglas Theodore Reimer, 69. of Clayton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, N.C.

He was born Feb. 3, 1944, in Provo, Utah, to the late Joseph and Sherlee Affleck Reimer. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Neil Reimer.

Mr. Reimer is survived by: his loving wife, Susan Reimer of Clayton; a daughter, Megan Reimer Thurmond of Rabun Gap; two brothers, Greg Reimer and Steve Reimer; three sisters, Cheryl Wysocki, Theresa Reimer and Pam Reimer; and two grandchildren, Evan Thurmond and Sylvia Thurmond.

He was a retired Navy hospital corpsman, having served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was very close to Evan.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the old St. Helena Catholic Church on Warwoman Road with the Rev. Stephen Hall, with St. James Episcopal Church, officiating.

Memorial donations in Douglas Reimer’s memory may be made to the Rathbun Center, in care of Mission Healthcare Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 5363, Asheville, NC 28813-5363.
