He was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Swain County, N.C., to the late Grover and Marjorie Gass Smith. He was the widower of Aderene Justus Smith. He retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of the Dillard Volunteer Fire Department; he was a coach of the Dillard/Rabun Gap little league basketball for 20 years. He was a member of the Betty’s Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for more than 20 years.
Moody is survived by: two daughters, Charlene Smith Bennett (Bruce) of Lilburn and Cheryl Smith Redden (Clarence) of Rabun Gap; five brothers, Willard Smith of Dade County, Fla., Wade Smith of Blairsville, Grover Smith Jr., of Young Harris, Neville Smith of Young Harris and Paul Smith of Marietta; a sister, Betty Brandall of Blairsville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Betty’s Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Smith and Greg Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. to lie in state.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home, where family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today. The family is at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Cheryl Redden (Clarence) on O.V. Justus Road in Rabun Gap.
