Louie Alfred Davis Jr., 78, of Rome, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, in a local hospital.

Mr. Davis was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Cedartown to the late Louie Alfred Davis Sr. and the late Louise Farr Davis. For many years, he was employed as district manager for Life Insurance Company of Georgia in Rome. Upon leaving Life of Georgia, he was employed with Liberty National Life Insurance Co. in Rome until his retirement. Mr. Davis was former member of the Jaycees and was a former Boy Scout leader while living in Jonesboro. He was a member of the Cherokee Lodge No. 66 F.&A.M. and the Rome Lions Club, where he served in various leadership capacities. Mr. Davis was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday school class there.

Survivors include: his wife, the former Nancy Rayburn, to whom he was married on Nov. 16, 1957; a son, Louie A. “Al” Davis III and wife Donna of Lindale; a brother, Phil Davis and wife Kim of Gainesville; two grandchildren, Anna Abney of Silver Creek and Jay Davis of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and two nephews, P.J. Davis and Caston Davis, both of Gainesville.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Second Avenue Baptist Church with the Revs. Monty Stallins and Lamar Barden officiating. Burial followed at Rome Memorial Park with Cherokee Lodge No. 66 F.&A.M. in charge of graveside rites.

Pallbearers were Tyki Palmer, Joe Elliott, Ricky Pierce, Frank Hindman, Randy Davis, Tommy Moore, Ralph White and Thurmon Morris. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fellowship Sunday school class.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
