Mary Elizabeth Speed Bryson, 68, of Clayton, went home to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at her residence, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

She was a lifelong resident of Rabun County and was the daughter of the late Ray Raleigh Speed and Lois Dotson Speed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Charles Speed.

She is survived by: her loving husband, Forrest Coleman Bryson of Clayton; a daughter, Tamara Bryson Marcus and husband Darion of Clayton; two brothers, Allen Speed and Dennis Speed, both of Clayton; and two sisters, Glenda Talley and Dianne Gragg, both of Clayton.

Mary worked for the Rabun County Tax Assessors office for many years and was a very loving and caring wife and mother. She was a devoted member of Battle Branch Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Friday at Battle Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Madison McCrackin officiating. Burial followed at Flats of Middle Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Scaly Mountain, N.C., with the Rev. Cale Stancil officiating.
