Tom Runion, 82, of Mountain City, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at his residence. He was the widower of Ethel Hopper Runion.

He was born March 15, 1932, in Rabun County to the late Gus and Leola Gibson Runion. He was a cook in a nursing home and with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office. He also was employed for a number of years at Rabun Mills. He was of the Church of God faith.

Tom’s wife, Ethel Hopper Runion, went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2011.

He is survived by: five sons, Danny Runion (Virgie) and Ernest Runion (Rhonda), both of Mountain City, Sammy Giles of Arrowsic, Maine and Glenn Giles (Brenda) and Tommy Giles, both of Clayton; a brother, Ellrey Runion of Marietta; two sisters, Mozell and Alice; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will held Saturday at Blue Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Harvey Conner and layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
