She was born Aug. 3, 1946, in Rabun County to the late James Carl Gibson and Mary Louise McDowell Gibson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: a brother, Clyde Gibson and his wife, Niota; and a brother-in-law, Zeke Anderson.
Evelyn is survived by: a brother, Larry Gibson (Rosemary) of Gales Ferry, Conn.; two sisters, Flora “Boots” Medford (Dale) of Waynesville, N.C., and Barbara Anderson of Cornelia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a retired school teacher for the Stephens County school district. She was a member of the Georgia Association of Educators and the National Education Association. She was a member of Mountain City United Methodist Church, where she held several offices. She was always willing to help others and was influential on other people’s lives. Her students called her “The Sweetest Teacher.”
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Stutsman officiating. Burial followed at Rabun Memory Park.
