Charles Welborn Davis Sr., 79, originally from Warthen, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Welborn was surrounded by his wife of 60 years and his four children.

Welborn was born April 29, 1935, in Warthen to Thomas and Myrtis Davis. He married Willa Branch Glover of Riddleville on April 18, 1954. They lived in Sandersville and raised four children: Jennifer, Chip, Jon and Ben. Welborn owned and operated Davis Tractor Company in the 1960s and 1970s. The family then moved to Clayton in the 1980s and lived there until 2010. They then moved to Summerville, S.C., to enjoy their retirement. Welborn was a people person and loved to talk and visit. His favorite thing in life was to be surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Welborn is survived by: his wife, Willa; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Greg James of Clayton; and sons and daughters-in-law, Chip and Ashley Davis of Sugar Hill, Jon and Suzanne Davis of Summerville, S.C., Ben and Kathryn Davis of Greer, S.C.; four grandchildren, Blake James, Kayla Sawyer, Charley Davis and Caroline Davis; two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Kinley Sawyer; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Welborn was a loving husband, father, grandfather “Ya-Ya,” uncle and friend to many.

A celebration of his life was held Monday at Davisboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Glover officiating. Burial followed at Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville.
