Cats' Stockton prioritizes life as national attention swells

TIGER — Rabun County football coach Jaybo Shaw leaned his head back, closed his eyes and thought about one moment that best exemplified Gunner Stockton on the field.

Within a second, the perfect example flooded Shaw’s mind and he described the play running through his head.

In last year’s senior night game against Union County, Stockton threw an interception and then chased the defender down and made the tackle. The Wildcats’ defense made a stop on the ensuing drive, and the offense scored the next time it touched the ball.

“I think that whole sequence was just a very special moment in Gunner’s short career so far as a quarterback,” Shaw said after last Thursday’s practice.
