CLAYTON—The Rabun County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) voted unanimously to change the terms of executive director Teka Earnhardt’s final compensation package in an unusual Sunday afternoon meeting Sept. 15.

The move came after questions were raised about the legality of paying Earnhardt three month’s salary and $500 per year for her 10 years of prior service in a severance package approved by the TDA board last week, a total amount in excess of $20,000.

Instead, the board voted to pay Earnhardt the same amount of money, but structure it as compensation for maintaining the explorerabun.com website and assisting Forward Rabun in paying bills through the end of the year.

“The sole purpose of our meeting today is to address an issue that has been brought up about the gratuities clause of the state constitution,” said TDA board Chairman Alan Price.
