The Georgia Department of Public Health reported 6,647 cases of COVID-19 with the noon update of their COVID-19 daily update.

Statewide, 1,283 hospitalizations and 211 deaths were attributed to COVID-19 by GDPH.

Three cases of COVID-19 in Rabun County have been confirmed by GDPH as of noon, April 5.

The public health agency issued the following statement on its website with today's noon report:

"Today’s significant increase in cases is in part due to additional laboratories reporting to DPH, and also improvements in electronic reporting from other laboratories. Patient information is often incomplete and DPH works to complete the records, so data will change over time."

The Clayton Tribune will continue to monitor and report as new development occur.
