Darlene Dillingham Gauger, 79, of Clayton, Georgia passed away quietly at her home on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, with her husband and her son by her side.

Born Aug. 28, 1941, in Clayton, she was the daughter of the late Elbert (Bill) Vanburen Dillingham and Jewell English Dillingham Rothell. After raising her children, she drove a school bus for Rabun County Schools and worked as an EMT and then as a nurse at Mountain View and other nursing homes. She loved her fur babies, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Tiger Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert (Bill) Vanburen Dillingham and Jewell English Dillingham Rothell. And by her husband’s parents. Mike and Corky Gauger, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her husband, Ken Gauger, of the home; son, Greg Roane, of Tiger, two daughters, Julia Cleveland; three grandsons, Clint Roane (Sherry) of Stone Mountain, Geoff Butler (Mariela) of Augusta, and Colby Roane of Muskegon, Michigan; two great-grandsons, Tristian and Ashton Glass; three great granddaughters, Grace, Addison, and Ella Roane. 

The body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will held at Tiger Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021. The Rev. Tim Hunnicutt will officiate. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and face masks will be required. The family is at their respective residences. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her honor to the Sid Webber Memorial Cancer Fund, PO Box 485, Rabun Gap GA 30568.
