Truman Jewel Barber Jr. of Sky Valley, Ga. and formerly of Jacksonville, Fla. Passed away on Dec. 14, 2019 at Mountain View Health Care Center in Clayton, Ga. after an extended illness. He was married to his loving wife Katherine (Kitti) for 69 years.

He was born Feb. 19, 1929 in Fulton County, Ga. to the late Truman Jewell Barber Sr. and Gladys Boddie Barber.

He graduated from Atlanta Boys School, Georgia State University and Woodrow Wilson College of Law. He was a graduate of the Insurance Institute of America, which certified him as an International Insurance Broker. He chose insurance over law because of so many interesting facets, but law definitely helped move his career along in a big way with several companies that had home offices in New York and Chicago. He was drafted into the United States Army under the medical corps during the Korean War, where he served two years of active duty and six years of inactive reserve duty.

Being an International Insurance Broker necessitated many trips to London to work with Lloyd’s of London and Kitti was fortunate to go with him. He and Kitti loved to travel and traveled all over Europe and other places, including Russia. He was a member of Sky Valley Chapel and severed several times on the executive board, where he served as treasurer for seven years. After his days of travel and golf slowed down, he began making miniatures of furniture and other articles of interest to his friends and family, giving them as gifts to them.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Barber of Sky Valley, Ga.; one sister, Martha Allison of Marietta, Ga.; two sons, Alan Barber of Concord, Mass., Glenn Barber of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Lori Barber of Franklin, N.C., four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive.

Services will be held at a later date when the seasonal people return for the summer. Those wishing to make donations in his memory may do so to the Chapel of Sky Valley or to a charity of their choice.
