Andy Diffenderfer has joined The Clayton Tribune as sports editor, Publisher Wayne Knuckles announced this week.

Diffenderfer, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., is a veteran journalist who began his career as a general assignment reporter for the Daily Citizen News in Dalton, Ga. In 1995.

He comes to Clayton from St. Marys, Ga., where he had served as sports editor for the Tribune & Georgian since 2011.

“We are pleased to welcome Andy to the community and to our newspaper family,” Knuckles said. “He is committed to helping our newspaper provide the best sports coverage possible and highlighting the accomplishments of our Rabun County athletes.”

Diffenderfer previously served as sports editor and later managing editor for the Walker County Messenger of LaFayette, Ga. and was a freelance reporter for the Chattanooga Times-Free Press prior to joining the staff of the Tribune & Georgian in 2011.

He and his wife Debra currently reside in Rabun County.

“I’m eager to get started and get to know the people here,” Diffenderfer said. “It is a nice place, and I know we will be happy here.”
