Runaway 15-year-old found in Kentucky
A runaway 15-year-old Lakemont girl is on the way home to her family.
That's the word from Rabun County Sheriff Frank Andrews, who on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. said Ashley Brianna Wayne was located in Louisville, Kentucky. Wayne ran away from her grandparents home early in the morning Feb. 28 and went missing for the second time in about a month.
Douglas Mack and Linda Wayne reported Ashley Wayne as missing to the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office after realizing around 7:30 a.m. Feb. 28 that she had run away. An incident report states Linda Wayne believed her granddaughter left the house around 3 a.m. because she recalled glancing at an alarm clock after hearing a noise.
This is the second time authorities have found Ashley Wayne after she has been reported missing. The Rabun County High School student was reported missing in February after leaving the campus during the school day. She got into in a white Hyundai Sonata around 12:30 p.m., Feb. 1, and headed southbound. Pictures of Wayne circulated across social media before she was found in the Atlanta area.
The missing girl was spotted Feb. 3 in the area of Bankhead Highway and Cleveland Avenue just south of Atlanta. She was found Feb. 5 by Atlanta-area police and the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office drove her back to Lakemont to reunite with family.
Details of the latest search and investigation were not available for release Thursday. Andrews is requesting community support for Wayne and her family, saying the 15-year-old experienced a traumatic event."
