North Georgia Credit Union is proud to be a sponsor of the upcoming Fight Abuse In The Home (F.A.I.T.H.) Sweetheart Ball on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event is an annual fundraiser that supports F.A.I.T.H., Inc.

Tractor trailer crashes on Highway 441 in Lakemont

A crash on Jan. 22 in Lakemont caused a semi-truck to overturn on Highway 441 and resulted no apparent injuries. The crash occurred at approximately 5:08 a.m. just past the business Mama Gail’s/Señor Pastor Mexican Cuisine. Emergency personnel could still be seen at the crash site around 10 a.m.

Teamwork makes emergency shelter possible

Residents of Rabun County were able to take shelter at the Recreation Center during both the ice storm, from Jan. 24 to 28, and the following snow storm, from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2. The American Red Cross set up the shelter at the request of the county Emergency Management Agency.

Vehicle overturns during Winter Storm Gianna

Winter Storm Gianna plowed through Rabun County last weekend, creating hazardous driving conditions in Clayton and throughout the county. The Clayton Police Department responded to a storm-related, single-vehicle crash on Saturday, Jan. 31, that happened around 10:34 a.m.

Clyde visits Northeast Georgia counties hit by Fern

Snow makes second storm in a week

Rabun County, for the second weekend in a row, was met with a significant winter weather event Saturday, Jan. 31, through Sunday, Feb. 1, with the arrival of Winter Storm Gianna. This time, Rabunites had the opportunity to enjoy several inches of snow.

Sheriff’s Office alerts public of inmate list scam

Rabun County Sheriff Mark Gerrells recently alerted the community about a scam involving the inmate population lists. Gerrells told The Clayton Tribune that scammers are obtaining inmate population lists from local detention centers.

Election qualifying upcoming for county, Sky Valley seats

During the upcoming General Primary Election/Nonpartisan Election on May 19, voters will cast their ballots for seats on the Rabun County Board of Commissioners, Board of Education and Magistrate Judge. Qualifying for the offices begins Monday, March 2, at 9 a.m. and ends Friday, Feb. 6, at noon.
