RCHS seniors receive more than $1.3 million in scholarships

CLAYTON-- Rabun County High School held its Senior Scholarship and Awards Night for the Class of 2021 in the RCHS Fine Arts building May 11.

As warmer weather arrives, use care when dealing with bears

With spring temperatures in place and summer right around the corner, the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, Town of Highlands and the BEAR task force got together via online video conference recently to discuss ways to mitigate human-bear encounters in 2021.

Class of '21 at RGNS represents 22 countries and 7 states in the U.S.  Special to The Clayton Tribune Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School celebrated graduates from the Class of 2021 during the School’s 118th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 16.

Maintenance work planned in Clayton May 23

The City of Clayton will be having planned maintenance for Main street on Sunday May 23, 2021 at 9 p.m.  The City crews will be making necessary repairs to the infrastructure including the replacement of a valve.

Local doctor's license put on probation by medical board

TIGER-- The medical license of Dr. Stephen Jarrard, who practices at Tiger Clinic, was put on probation for three years by the Georgia Composite Medical Board recently, following an investigation sparked by a complaint of inappropriate behavior in the workplace not related to a patient.

Ex-police officer eyes $1 million lawsuit

CLAYTON-- The city of Clayton was served with a notice of potential lawsuit alleging former Assistant Chief Ryan Hamilton was wrongfully terminated from the Clayton Police Department on October 15, 2020. The notice indicated $1 million may be offered as a settlement amount.

Local groups honor Rabun teachers

TIGER-- Forward Rabun partnered with local businesses to show appreciation to teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week last week.  Forward Rabun partnered with Rabun County Bank, Habersham EMC and Georgia Power to provide Chick fil A to teachers at each of the four county schools and the bus shop.

Nease said that the slope has started endangering the road infrastructure and should be fixed immediately. City officials will vote on an emergency declaration next week to speed-up the repair process.

Shadyside Drive emergency repairs discussed

CLAYTON-- Clayton City Council members discussed passing a resolution for an emergency declaration to fix slopes on Shadyside Dr. that developed from a storm about six weeks ago, at their work session Tuesday.
