Celebrate Clayton returns this weekend

CLAYTON--Celebrate Clayton has been celebrating fine arts since 1999 and the popular event is returning to Clayton this weekend.  This celebration is free to attend and open to the public. It is sponsored by the nonprofit North Georgia Arts Guild.  Celebrate Clayton will be held on Main St.

New Clayton manager places priority on making city government responsive to needs of residents

CLAYTON-- Michael Esposito said he looks forward to helping the citizens of Clayton as their new city manager.  “A big part of my job is helping the citizens,” Esposito said. “I believe in trying to help when we can. I just want to make a difference.”  Esposito’s first day in Clayton was April 12.

Clayton water woes discussed in separate venues

CLAYTON--Representatives of the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority and the city of Clayton made separate public presentations this week with their points of view on the latest offer for Clayton to sell its water and sewer system to the county.

Mildred Widgery recalls 100 years of adventure as she hits the century mark

Mildred Widgery has lived a life full of adventure. From traveling overseas, getting baptized in the Tallulah River and even riding a camel at 80-years-old, she’s accomplished a lot in her century-long life. Widgery was born on April 20, 1921 in Memphis, Tenn.

Citizens group says 'enough is enough' at public forum

A group of citizens discussed the county’s offer to buy the city of Clayton’s water and sewer system in a forum organized by the Rabun County Coalition for Good Government (RCC4GG) last Wednesday. The public forum was held before Clayton made a counter-offer Tuesday afternoon.

Clayton counters county water offer

CLAYTON--The city of Clayton responded to the county's recent offer to purchase their water and sewer system after a closed session Tuesday.

RCWSA to raise its water prices

RABUN GAP— The Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority (RCWSA) voted to implement water rate increases for RCWSA retail customers, the city of Dillard and the city of Clayton at Tuesday’s meeting. The adjustments will be implemented on July 1, 2021, according to a document provided by the RCWSA.

Wilson Alley closure is again topic of discussion

CLAYTON— Clayton city council members discussed traffic concerns on Wilson Alley in downtown Clayton at Tuesday’s council meeting. It was the first meeting for new City Manager Michael Esposito, who’s first day was Monday.

Rabun County GOP elects slate of new officers

The Rabun GOP elected a new slate of officers at the county convention held at The Dillard House Conference Center last Saturday.  Ed Fickey was elected chair, Tim Wall elected 1st vice chair, Ken Fortney elected 2nd vice chair and Linda Burns elected treasurer.

Scouts spruce up fishing pier benches

If you have been to the pond at the Rec Center lately, you may have noticed a change in the benches by the fishing pier. This is the start of Cub Scouts Pack 6’s project to redo the benches on the walking trail around the pond.
