Sheriff's office to create Domestic Violence Victims Unit

CLAYTON-- The Rabun County Sheriff's Office will develop and implement a Patrol Domestic Violence Victims Unit after commissioners approved a Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant in the amount of $46,612 at the Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday.

CLAYTON-- The Rotary Club of Clayton recently recognized the efforts of local First Responders, who have been on the front lines of the national health emergency for nearly a year.

Traffic stop leads to meth arrests

TIGER-- A traffic stop in Tiger on Feb. 3 led to the arrest of two people for trafficking of methamphetamine.  “On Feb. 3 deputies with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Ga. 15 near the intersection of Rabun Park Dr. after observing a traffic violation.

Slow-speed chase ends in arrest

A South Carolina man was arrested in Rabun County following a chase beginning in Macon County on Feb. 11.  Joshua James Emanual Ernest Martin, 23 of Tamassee, S.C. was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude and transported to the Rabun County Detention Center.

Clayton council approves purchase of police vehicle

CLAYTON-- Clayton City Council members approved the purchase of a new police vehicle at Tuesday’s city council meeting.  Mayor Jordan Green and Council Member Woody Blalock were not present at the meeting.

Over 600 receive second round of COVID-19 shots at Rec Department

TIGER-- Around 650 people recieved the COVID-19 vaccine at the clinic held at the Rabun County Parks and Recreation facility on Tuesday.  "It's gone really well. Just like the first mass vaccination," said County Nurse Manager Dulene Jones about how the process was going.

Clayton makes offer to city manager candidate

CLAYTON-- The city of Clayton extended an offer to Michael Esposito to become the next city manager after council members met in executive session on Tuesday.  Esposito is currently employed as city manager in Crescent City, Fla. The job came down to Exposito and Jason E.

From childhood playmates to life-long partners

It’s been said that true love is hard to find.  But Alton and Mary Story looked no further than the cow pasture where they played ball as children.  “I don’t remember not knowing you,” Alton said to Mary with a smile as they held hands.
