Celebrate Clayton set to return in April

CLAYTON-- The Celebrate Clayton Fine Arts Festival is scheduled for April 24 and 25.  The event has been celebrating Fine Art since 1999 and was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.  There is no entry fee.

Rabun COVID numbers are trending downward

There was some good news in the latest batch to COVID-19 data released by the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH).  The number of new cases in Rabun County continues to trend downward, and no new deaths have been reported in the past week.

Shope steps down as Rabun Chamber Director

Juanita Shope recently resigned as president and community liaison of the Rabun County Chamber of Commerce, announced Board Chair Irene Bynum-Faith in a statement.  “I’m looking forward to traveling and spending time with family,” Shope said Tuesday. “I really enjoyed my time serving my community.

4-H treats Rabun County Health Department

On Thursday, January 28, the Rabun County 4-H Club said “thank you” to the employees of the Rabun County Health Department with lunch.  The Rabun County 4-H Club raised funds so the health department could enjoy an amazing lunch catered by Clayton’s own Mama G’s.

Clayton man dies of injuries suffered in wreck

CLAYTON-- A Clayton man has died after being hospitalized following a two-vehicle accident in Clayton on January 29.  Hudson Queen, 82 of Clayton, died on Monday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.  At approximately 11:28 a.m.

Sky Valley continues search for new city manager

SKY VALLEY-- The city of Sky Valley continues their search for city manager after newly-hired Michael “Mickey” Duvall resigned after serving for three days, according to City Clerk Karen Fleming Tuesday.  She said that Duvall resigned due to health reasons.

Domestic abuse cases up 77 percent in Rabun

CLAYTON—Domestic violence incidents in Rabun County nearly doubled in 2020. But despite the obvious need, local victim advocate groups such as Fight Abuse In The Home (FAITH) are battling budget cuts and significant drops in traditional fundraising events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jail, sheriff's office project to begin March 1

TIGER-- Construction for the expansion of the Rabun County Detention Center and the new sheriff’s office is set to begin March 1, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Health Dept. moves location for vaccinations

District 2 Public Health Departments have coordinated with community partners to locate COVID-19 vaccine clinics to larger spaces, according to a statement from Public Information Officer Dave Palmer Tuesday.  The goal is to maximize efficiency for vaccine delivery.
