Meth seized, two charged

RABUN GAP-- A drug bust in Rabun Gap on Oct. 21 led to the arrest of two individuals charged with trafficking of methamphetamine and possession of controlled substances, according to a news release from the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO).

Contract awarded for high school agriculture center

TIGER-- Construction will soon break ground on the Rabun County High School (RCHS) Agricenter after a bid was awarded to Charles Black Construction at a special called Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
Rabun County's completion rate for the UNited States Census was in the high 90th percentile.

The 2020 United States Census count came to a close in September, and Rabun County exceeded expectations in completion rate.

Generator blamed for structure fire

A structure fire in the Persimmon community on October 31 is believed to be caused by a generator, said Rabun County Fire Services Assistant Chief Justin Upchurch in a statement Tuesday.  Rabun County Fire Services responded to a report of a structure fire at 1600 Cat Gap Rd.

Despite obstacles, Halloween a hit

Nichols wins re-election, GOP candidates dominate

CLAYTON—Sheriff Chad Nichols easily won a second term Tuesday as Rabun County voters went to the polls in unprecedented numbers. Elsewhere on the ballot, there were no real surprises.

Record number of early voters in Rabun County

CLAYTON-- Early voting ends tomorrow, and Rabun County residents have turned out in record numbers for early voting to cast their vote for the 2020 presidential election.  As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, Rabun County had voted 57.41 percent of registered voters.  Since early voting began Oct.

Darnell promoted to oversee jail

Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Beth Darnell has been promoted to captain overseeing the operations of the Rabun County Detention Center.  “I was excited. I guess it was a little surreal,” Darnell said about how she felt getting promoted.

Breast cancer survivor Julie Delucia’s philosophy is to live each day to the fullest and not take anything for granted.  She said that she gained a new perspective on life after a breast cancer diagnosis in July 2019.
