With colorful leaves and breathtaking scenery, fall in the Northeast Georgia mountains is the most beautiful time of year. If you have a photograph that represents this beauty, it could be featured on the cover of The Mountain Traveler’s fall 2020 edition.

'Work together' former governor tells new Forward Rabun board

CLAYTON--The Forward Rabun Community Board kicked off its inaugural meeting Tuesday with special guest speakers former Gov. Nathan Deal, Sandra Deal and Rep. Terry Rogers of Ga. House District 10.

Hospital announces Coll stepping down

CLAYTON—Matthew Lemak, Managing Partner Merem for Mountain Lakes Medical Center, announced several staff changes at the hospital last week.   Tammy Coll, Chief Executive Officer of Mountain Lakes Medical Center, has announced her retirement effective Sept. 30, according to Lemak.

29 students quarantined due to COVID

TIGER--Rabun County Schools’ officials have confirmed four positive COVID-19 cases since school started back on August 19.  An email confirming three positive cases at the high school went out to Rabun County school families on Monday, with 28 students in quarantine from those three cases.

Fireworks to mark closing of Lake Burton centennial

LAKE BURTON-- As Labor Day weekend approaches, fireworks and music this Saturday will mark the end to the summer-long Centennial Celebration on Lake Burton.  The event is part of events celebrating the construction of the Georgia Power dam and the lake’s formation in 1920.

RGNS opens with 630 students from 56 countries, 16 states

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School students returned to the classroom for a much-anticipated,  historic start to the school year on Wednesday, August 26.  This year marks the largest and most diverse enrollment in school history. Rabun Gap welcomes 630 students from 56 different countries and 16 states.

The Rotary Club of Clayton, in conjunction with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and Rotary District 6919, distributed more than 600 food boxes on Saturday as part of the USDA Farmers To Families Program.

Students, faculty are adjusting as schools open

TIGER--Rabun County Schools are back in session and school officials said that the first few days were successful.  “The first week of school was amazing,” said Superintendent April Childers in a statement.
